    VOLCADA – CAPSIZED

    EVA
    Allen’s buried.
Without husband, I re-experience my youth.
Oh, the bafflement of the young!
    I broke off my first
Engagement because I loved too much
And cast about for a spouse I could
Control. I believe you did that, too.

    EVAN
I experienced our parting as unbearable.
I had to run away –
Your rush of talk was like someone bursting into tears.
I felt like an executioner robbing you of sleep.
    Without you
My nose began to bleed and
    It’s been bleeding ever since.
We must love each other less to become more tranquil.

    EVA
I am a witch and you should fear me.
I glow with contempt and boredom and fury.
    I don’t understand why
I can’t experience life by your side.
    We share the same senses,
    The same vein of joy.
Our life together is timeless, continuous.

    EVAN
    Your letter fraught with dynamite.
I can never be alone, it is me and the gin bottle.
I am home nowhere now – except with you.

    EVA
Please don’t get yourself into a state –
But Edgar has proposed, forcing me to face the fact
That I literally cannot live without you.

    EVAN
I dread you will succumb to Edgar.
You called him “sweet” and “cozy” and “brilliantly entertaining”
And I am none of those things. Did you bewitch him?
I ask in my persecuted voice.
It would be your ultimate justice, sending me to hell.
We lose each other by inches.
    Aren’t we doing that already?

    EVA
I can’t show Edgar the brutal candor
    Behind my loving kindness.
He mistakes the hostess for a person.
I arrange my flowers in symbols of you
And everyone’s too stupid to notice.
    To bed alone again tonight.
    I wish Elayna would die.
    Then we should be equals.

    EVAN
    I must refuse your guilt.
I feel a shift in the angle of vision
    Further from you than ever.
A foreboding so final it seemed the end.
Your pleading for our life dissolves my will.

    EVA
I am gnawed by an aching hopeless wish.
    Loneliness leads to breakdown,
    Becomes dementia. I batter
Around the rooms of this castle,
    Brightly-plumaged,
    Knocking into furniture,
A tragic bird who’s trapped indoors.
Even dizzy with drink I maintain the frigidity
    Of an Edwardian hostess
    Intolerant of scenes at meals.
    Without you life’s a half-lit room.

    EVAN
I’ve become a character in your melodrama
An absurd scalawag of romantic vice.
    Let’s reject this
    Hopeless dilemma.

    EVA
What could be more beautiful than our ten days in New York,
    Among perverted architecture.
No loss of illusion there, rather an increase.
I’m in the midst of a dreary financial crisis,
    Having breakdown on my feet.
I hope I don’t sound too shocked and sad.
You are life to me as nothing is.
    My fingers still tremble,
    Touching you after 17 years.

    EVAN
This is the Eva I first met, first knew, first loved.
We waited it out and didn’t lose each other.
I was sane or mad to doubt you & myself.
We are like two people sweating blood
    I dread losing you
But Elayna’s power still holds me.
One of you may do me harm.

    EVA
    Thanks for the cash,
I hope it doesn’t embarrass you too much.
You are a reviver and a balm.
We shall be in Paris together before we die.

    EVAN
If you want me to be unselfish, let me be unselfish.
You are my greatest friend. I’m
Trying to keep off the drink while you’re here,
Otherwise I know I’ll wreck everything.
    Three manhattans makes me crazy.
Your feverish cheer does not seem solid.
Is this the wreckage of our love?
Once frightened of your clinical eye
Now I’m more frightened of my own.
    I’ve matriculated in
    Your fearful university.

    EVA
    We sheer away in horror
    Scenting fumes of evil
    As we lose control.
Defeat and exhaustion, alarm and despondency.
    Demoralized and sad.
Slam down the lid on pain and resentment:
I have taken against your family.
    Let’s dance. To sit
    In silence denigrates our love.

    EVAN
    My heart aches for you.
We talked for the first time in weeks
    About hurt and resentment.
I could manage my life if it weren’t for you
And you could manage yours if it weren’t for me.
You infect me with your despair and I flee to my wife
    To release the pressure.
Her quickening influence works my imagination.

    EVA
I hate that you travel the world without me.
You pervade that place as God pervades our hearts.
I obsess that you’re in places where I’m not.
I could not live without seeing you. Yet
    Our visit may turn sour.

    EVAN
Everything except your beautiful self rusts
    Or dies or goes away.
    My love only seems dead;
it’s alive underneath. If you die
    I shall never forgive you.

We need ideas that are less about ourselves.

    EVA
My rage is based on my assumption
    Of togetherness and my
Secret fear you’re being got at when
We could be so snug together.

    EVAN
    I hurt Elayna tonight
But there’s no help for it.
She cares for me and I only care for a life apart.
    A clean break, an amputation
    Makes me frantic and guilty.
She says we have a happy marriage only because
She willed it. This smell of death and decay
    Makes me long for sex.
Could you help me find a girl – any girl you choose –
Or will you call me a sex mad degenerate?
    Panic makes my hands shake.
I thought of Elayna and I wept.

    EVA
I received your sad, wild letter.
I accept that you can’t free yourself.
    Do you accept it?
I feel so very near you.
I accept that you make sex
    Desperately with strangers –
    Do you accept it?
Can anyone love such a cold-blooded person?

    EVAN
How silly I am, I thought
    I reconciled to our ending,
Expecting a collapse of tension & illusion.
    But it’s a prospect I just can’t face.

    3. LATIGAZO – WHIPPING

    EVAN
    Do you really love me?
    Why should you?
    I don’t any longer
    Believe In friendship.

    EVA
It is a horror, an outrage
That we should not be together. I struggle against
The wound of not knowing where you are each minute.
Everything you do is more important to me than my own life.
The whole of me is with you.
I see and feel you so distinctly,
Your beloved cold hand in mine
Your touch on the nape of my neck.

    Joy and agony
    – my insides torn by pincers.
A double goodbye would have been awful
    – two bites on the bullet of pain.

This love is like something we have given birth to.
We must never blunt our imagination or tenderness.
Don’t get a cold in your soul.

    EVAN
    Are these abortive suicide attempts?
    I disappoint everyone.
Cut the cable. Set me free.

I deliberately left one of your letters for Elayna to find.

With me love is linked with
A need to betray. I invite possessiveness.
She made me promise our love would never be physical.
    I lied fluidly.

    EVA
    Even the thought of
Such a loss of pleasure tears at my heart
    Like some medieval torture.

    You harrow me unbearably.
    My defenses are down.
I’m filled me with a sense of ghastly injury.
How I wish I were more beautiful –
It’s my mouth that ages me.
    It reveals my greedy secrets.

I want you seeing all of me –
Even if it hurts. My work
    Is my legacy –
    You are your own child.
You preserve your youth with the harm
    That you cause.

I feel I am dead and already
    Interred – in you.
    You are my eternity.

    EVAN
    Repressed boredom causes blocks
    You can’t have everything.
I am kept aloft by the conflict of
    Unbearables.
    It makes me happy.

    EVA
If our dancing life is over –
    Should I enter a convent?
There’s no point in being alive
    if we’re not together.
I show my deepest self to you alone.

    EVAN
Please – no more shaming conversations
Over Irish whisky. Let’s cut our losses
And get some fun from life.
    Your miraculous capacities awaken
    My belief in myself.

    EVA

The gash in our love might close
But I’ll never forget it’s there.
Life with you is a remote happiness to which I cling

    EVAN
And all this time you write such
Fantastic books. If you were as unhappy as you say,
    You couldn’t write so well.
    I’m proud to be
The whetstone on which you sharpen –
I should be thanked for all your works.

    Writing to you
Makes me itch with a beastly itch –
    Exhilarated, punch drunk
    Feeling your enthrallment
    Despite the day’s malaise.

I can’t put my heart back in the hollow
    Where it used to be.
    You force me to see
    Myself.

At the peak of my ambition,
Beauty and power curdle within me.
People are so easily fooled, so
    Satisfied with little
identify my performance with my Soul.

    You’ve spoiled me for everything.
Stop warning me you’ll take a lover –
I don’t own your life and never aspired to.
There is heartbreak here, but is the ghost in the house
Or in me? We argue about who has the worst friends,
But our friends are all the same. Please
Send another psychic telegram, “You’re the One.”

    EVA
Your last screed was a masterpiece.
    I believe writing it
    Creates that eczema from which
    You say you suffer.
My friends at Tosca said it’s bad manners
    To make a depressing fuss
    And get other people down.

    EVAN
Is the strength I draw from you a fairy tale?
I am appalled by the joint misery we feel.
    Why should we not rebel?

    EVA
You shed your light around me.
If only we could stand each other.
    You’ll keep the blood
    Running in my veins
    Threatening to spill.

    EVAN
Someone said I look ten years younger
From drinking your life, I’m sure.
I need my own room because I sleep badly and
I like to roam at night.

Tosca is too emotional to be good taste
But I’m happy you enjoyed it.
I feel far from you right now but
    Underneath
    I’m outrageously glad.

    EVA
    Your diplomacy fascinates me.
Your mettle is the stuff of history.
    When young I resisted education
    Like a fool – But
    It makes everything comprehensible.
What kills me is having to deal with people.

    I tie myself up writing
    Imaginary conversations with you –
    It’s possible you’re a creature of
My invention. Our pattern seems set –
    Or is it?
    If treachery can’t break it,
    There is no death.

  • The Demon Lover – a play for two voices by Alysse Aallyn

    2 – Cadena – Enchainment

      EVAN
A happy guilty day full of betrayals
Kept me in an extraordinary state
Of fascination. I’ve lied to everyone for
So long, I feel certain that truth
      Is beyond me.

      EVA
I’d rather see you dead at my feet
      Than dead ON your feet.
That would be a mercy killing –
      The last unbearable agony –
Wondering if you existed at all.

I have small talent for this.
      I have disgraced my idealism,
      Pretending boredom can be fruitful.
Waiting, waiting for you everywhere. I
Wake one day to find I’ve lost my looks, my hair,
      fascination, brain – everything.

      EVAN
      You’re only waking up
      In an empty hotel.
      The light is always different
      The morning after.
This is what middle-aged people do.
I love the brutality of your world.
You never fade. You are my word made flesh.

      EVA
      You are my religion.
Until In fell in love with you I was 25 inside.
I lived in a world of dreams and theories.
Your experiences seem realer to me than mine.

      EVAN
      Social instinct is my religion.
You have the bravery and intelligence
      Men are supposed to have
      But never do.
To have touched the same places
      Is a bond between us.
I never think of my deficiencies –
Or how could I forgive myself?

      EVA
      Middle-aged people go to weddings
Out of perverse fascination for the bride.
      I was that bride –
      My day was all champagne.
      Anaesthetized
      It doesn’t hurt so much.
Such a sense of enormity came over me
I almost fainted. I gave Allen the dirtiest look: “You caused this.”

      Without a wedding dress
I was a restless, dowdy snob.
People were falling in love left and right –
      Even in decaying marriages.
      I wanted that –
      He read my subtext.
      And I was caught.

      EVAN
These dreary parties have a decaying effect.
My loneliness for you is like a whiplash.
Your absence is a bitter injury
But nothing can injure our love –
      We’re too strong for them.
I’m silenced till I hear from you.

If I let myself go I would feel desperate.
I can’t bear you’re going to France without me –
      But –
      isn’t love our country?

      EVA
      I won’t say “I’ll die if you don’t come”
Because I know you would come if you possibly could.
What a skeleton in the cupboard a wife is.

      EVAN
Don’t be jealous of Elayna. You are the only goal
Toward which my life is tending.
You are the meaning of my life.
I could never live for work alone.

      EVA
      You enlarge my soul.
In your mind is my existence.
You’re more real to me than me.
I’m in a peculiar psychic state.
      It’s an atmosphere of illusion.
I envy Elayna all the time.
It drips like an irritant over my nerves.

      EVAN
      What of Allen? You
      Have your worse half too.
      I don’t waste my time
      Being jealous of him.

      EVA
Oh, Allen spends time lost in woods,
Falling in love with trees. He’s
      No threat to anyone.

      EVAN
      To understand one’s destiny
One needs a framework for this mass of experience.
How can I live separated from you?
If I stopped caring for you
      I couldn’t care for anything.

I need my wife, her whip-cracking organization.
I loathe living in the squalor I get to on my own.
Having breakfast OUT of bed is the last horror.
Miasmic feelings of impossibility and terror. Help me.

      EVA
      We help each other
By existing. Except for God I have no help but you.
Our love is growing more formidable as our unshakeable belief
Grows stronger. Like grace, it renews itself.
All yesterday I glowed. My inability to accept your wife
Is my deformity – help me with it.
The light of our love is the only light for me.

    1. Sleeping Orchid – Creative Boot Camp for Sensitives & Empaths with Alysse Aallyn

      Night – Balance

If This Archetype Chooses You – Something in you is out of whack. Balance is a key law of nature to help us avoid the dreaded stagnancy that we experience as a kind of living death. Once our conscious is in harmony with our subconscious, our dreams begin to balance our waking life. Even the worst nightmare can be looked at objectively in the light of day, as a warning story with curative potency and significance.

Creatives Seek Balance – Unfortunately our contemporary life has become a competitive pursuit of “highs”. A good life well-lived provides natural highs – learning a skill, reveling in physical and sensual gifts, falling in love, listening to music, sharing with children, enjoying the grandeurs of nature. Our intellect teaches us that every “high” is dramatically enriched by thinking about it! That’s why we are called “homo sapiens.”

Balance is a Law of Nature – The pursuit of competitive highs without the thinking and enshrining stages always leads to excess and grief. Highs for their own sake inevitably disappoint, leading to a pursuit of more and more dangerous highs, which, if we are not thinking about them, sharing them with others and incorporating them into our personal history and philosophy, damages our ability to experience joy. Understanding and managing our “emotional highs” is the key to future joys.

Creatives Live on All Levels At Once – Creatives learn to give thanks for and pay tribute to the Past, to enjoy and understand the Present, to anticipate and strategize for the Future and to revel in and be comforted by the promise of Eternity.

Balancing the Levels – Joy that is held in the mind is joy endlessly re-experienced. It will be yours forever, and you will be able to share it with all the people you love for the rest of your life. Each of us briefly experiences heaven during our lifetimes; prolonged, immortalized and enriched by experiencing and re-experiencing with each other.

Creative Challenge – We need to personally set up our brain’s “reward system” to handle pleasure and suffering or we will be prescribed drugs in an attempt to achieve the same effect chemically. Drugs can be useful as training wheels; ideally we want to teach our systems to achieve the same effect naturally. Calm is the first step to balance, so we must learn to calm ourselves. Meditation, sleep and yoga offer the best methods for reliable self-soothing. First, we assert calm over our breath, then our bodies, lastly our thoughts. It’s not that difficult! Reminder: this occurred naturally every night of our lives before we started stressing about it!

Night Is the Leveler – Our species needs sleep to connect to the Universal Mind, and to the minds of all Dreamers, human and animal. Conscious dreaming (often called lucid dreaming) provides a trusted avenue to filter daily discoveries down to your subconscious level. Always have a joy to think about just as you are going to sleep, and another for when you are waking up. This will sharpen your connection with emotional ecstasy and deepen your life. Once our conscious is in harmony with our subconscious, our dreams will balance our waking life. Even the worst nightmare can be looked at objectively, as a story with potential significance.

1.“For everything there is a season,
a time for every activity under heaven.
2 A time to be born and a time to die.
A time to plant and a time to harvest.
3 A time to kill and a time to heal.
A time to tear down and a time to build up.
4 A time to cry and a time to laugh.
A time to grieve and a time to dance.
5 A time to scatter stones and a time to gather stones.
A time to embrace and a time to turn away.
6 A time to search and a time to quit searching.
A time to keep and a time to throw away.
7 A time to tear and a time to mend.
A time to be quiet and a time to speak.
8 A time to love and a time to hate.

      Torpor – Addiction

If This Archetype Chooses You – Uh oh. Something’s preventing you from launching on your quest. Time to wake your Sleeping Orchid, but…It’s hard to even formulate goals with this monkey on your back, chattering in your ear. What is it?

You’ve Become Too Attached. To … what? Investigate. Something’s controlling your mind, controlling your actions. Take it slow as you consider. Is this attachment harming your principles? Values? Relationships?

The Creative’s Fiercest Battle – Do you dream of imprisonment? Blank walls? Chains? Our neurocircuitry mandates habit-making behavior, but our intelligence recognizes entrapment, and our dreams send out distress signals. If you’re human, there is no way to avoid addiction. Welcome to the unpleasant Club!

We Are Wired for Addiction – If there’s no escaping it – that means you will have to fight this battle. But the good news is, this is exactly how you become Free. Anyone who hasn’t done it is still a slave to their hormones, instincts, patterning – just as animals are. Here’s the very thing you become a Creative for – your best chance to develop a free will and a free soul.

Study Your Opponent – Turns out we have tremendous choice over what we become addicted to. Some addictions are less corrupting than others. Visit an AA meeting and the consumption of sugar and tobacco is outright alarming. Are you addicted to gambling? Do you work in sales? Were you raised in a ritualistic faith? We easily become dependent on praise, on safety, on gratification, and our brains (and our general health) show our dependency. They threaten and panic when the “treat” is withdrawn.

Creative Challenge – This parasite doesn’t care if it kills its host. If you fear you are approaching a cliff-edge, you probably are. One test is to go on a “retreat” where your customary gratifications are not available, and attempt to form new gratifications. See what happens! Does your personality threaten to disintegrate? Great time to ask yourself: who am I really? This is such a good idea, we should build it into our lives, periodically. Just to keep us recognizing that cliff-edge where Soul and Self become separated and Free Will is lost.

Creative Danger – We always live with the possibility that we will lose our autonomy. We want to evolve, we know we SHOULD change, but we CAN’T. There’s no shame in needing outside help. This is the purpose of interventions, to demonstrate to our eyes and ears that we are harming ourselves and our relationships. Denial is a powerful defense mechanism, especially when we think we’ve finally found a substance/process that “magically” allows us to live on our particular cliff-edge – a dangerous job, risky sexual behaviors, risky recreational behaviors.

Worst-Case Scenario – is that our addiction becomes our identity. We always have the choice of refusing to listen to our interveners – giving up on our relationships just to keep up our self-abuse. Some hardened wretches tell anyone who listen that life itself isn’t worth it without their life-threatening self-abuse. They choose to die as slaves.

Creative Opportunity – You not only CAN free yourself, you MUST to deserve and preserve your Creative Power. It is your spiritual obligation to live this territorial existence as an enlightenment opportunity. Familiar with the saying, “Live simply so that others may simply live” ? That mandates sharing. That means ALWAYS studying your consumption, NEVER allowing yourself to turn into a greedy pig and scheduling time to be alone with the universe and with God. To check on the hardiness of your Soul.

Models & Mentors – “You can’t defeat the darkness by keeping it caged inside you” – Seth Adam Smith

“All addictions are ways to not feel our feelings”
        Ellen Burstyn

“Sometimes you can only find heaven by backing slowly away from hell”
        Carrie Fisher

“Success is the sum of small efforts, repeated day in and day out”. – Robert Collier

“The most common way people give up their power is thinking they don’t have any” – Alice Walker

        #Haiku: – Addiction

        Brain cells beggared;
        Lovelorn
        Oxytocin receptors misfire:
        “Feed me!”

      1. Sleeping Orchid – Creative Boot Camp for Sensitives & Empaths with Alysse Aallyn

        Danger – Risk

If This Archetype Chooses You – Look out. Are you a worrier? Anxiety driven? Haunted by nightmares and worst-case scenarios? Do you wake up gasping and trying to forget what you’ve just experienced?

You are Alert – Nightmares mean you’re paying attention. Life is scary, but we need to grow, and growth requires we learn to cultivate risk if we are ever to expand and venture outside our comfort zone.

The Number One Complaint About the Freedom of Becoming a Creative? – Fear management. The only way to manage fear? Become a Creative.

Study Risk Intelligently. No point being afraid of dragons if dragons are only symbolic. No point being “afraid” of “foreigners” if the man telling us to be afraid has a reputation for befriending people and then fleecing them.

          Managing Fear:

          1. Don’t rely on rumor and innuendo
          2. Dangers must be proven Real
          3. Dangers Need to be Historically verified by data: “How likely is injury?”
          4. Assemble likely risk-avoidance strategies that have performed well for others in your situation.
          5. What exactly is your situation? Quantify.
          6. Know who your friends are
          7. Be prepared to alter strategy to maximize success and to learn from mistakes

Creatives Train – Creatives accept, identify and study the challenges. They learn to make sophisticated risk assessments and pick their battles cleverly. To do that, creatives need a Purpose. You get to find out who your friends are. Friends want the best for you, but the relationship must be reciprocal. You have each other’s backs. Know the difference between a Team and a Gang. Gangs work to suck power from individual members and concentrate it in one individual. Teams work for the success of all. Coach can’t win if the team doesn’t win.

Creatives Test – their and mental physical abilities constantly against life’s games & mazes

Creatives Transform – The physical pleasure of meeting the moment cannot be overstated. Soon the training itself becomes a rush of joy. You are making love to the universe and the universe loves you back

What About Defeat? – There are no defeats, there are only lessons. Everything is practice for The Greater Contest.

Won’t You Ultimately Lose? Truly, we all die, some sooner, some less dignified. This is where your purpose upholds you. Study your models. What allowed Nelson Mandela to be “captain of his soul” after more than 20 years in brutal captivity? Are we just bodies? Or are we also souls? Are our souls so easily defeated? Can we also train, test and transform our souls?

          Remember – a caterpillar’s “defeat” is a butterfly.

Models & Mentors – “Extreme Fear can neither fight nor fly.”
          William Shakespeare

“Courage is resistance to fear, mastery of fear, not absence of fear” – Mark Twain

“If you try to get rid of fear and anger without knowing their meaning, they will return stronger” – Deepak Chopra

“We’re more often frightened than hurt, and we suffer more from imagination than reality.” – Seneca

        1. Butterfly Language for Caterpillars – Soulmate Seeking with Alysse Aallyn

The Daisy = LOVE “Is love real?” “Love Waves”

Love is the secret. Love is the answer. Love is what we say we feel when we look into the Soulmate’s eyes According to our long, rich tradition of romantic literature, it’s a connection/identification with someone else so powerful (and so rewarding) you would walk through fire for that person.

                      Biblically defined as:

“Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres”

Love is the opposite of the winner/loser “fuck you” ethos.

Love is patient. We can’t expect the Soulmate to be on the same page with us immediately, or all the time. We must work out our differences, analyze our difficulties and strategize        solutions. Love takes time.

Love is kind. We handle each other gently, with care. Thoughtfully, with reverence. Slowly. Savoring.

Love does not envy. We are not competitive with each other. When we wrestle, it is in play, for joy, not because we want to         trounce the Soulmate or knock the feet out from under the Beloved.

Love does not boast. We are not seeking to impress each other. Love is not a hierarchy where we can lift our status above the Loved One.

Love is not proud. We can admit fault. We can say we are sorry. We can weep with the Beloved and we can begin again.

Love does not dishonor others. There is no “score”, no winner  and no loser. We don’t take tattletales of the Beloved to friends, family, social media or the public space.

Love is not self-seeking. It is not transactional: “what can I get out of this” “you are not giving enough” “you are not making me look good.”

Love is not easily angered. We resist anger, touchiness, rage over our wounded narcissistic self-importance. If we are angry we cannot join, touch each other, embrace whole-heartedly or solve problems. When you get angry over a problem, now you have two problems.

Love keeps no record of wrongs. When we say, “I forgive you”, we mean it.

Love does not delight in evil. We do not seek the diminishment or disrespect of the other. Popular “bondage” and “sadism” games that memorialize the helplessness and subjection of the Other are dangerous, volatile and can be triggers of past dangers and will map out a bleak and lonely future.

Love rejoices in the truth. The truth evolves because our brains evolve. Truth is a process as our lives are a process. We are all heading for an end goal – both together and separately – if we        can   figure out what it is. Truth is our ally in this dilemma, because it tells us the real results of all our strategies which allows us to calibrate our efforts and improve our outcomes.         We must speak truth to each other and we must grow in stature enough to dare to speak truth to Power.

Love protects. We shelter. We nourish. We steward. We cherish. We assess. We unite.

Love always trusts. We believe. We have the best assurance that God is good and that truth, justice and love will win in the end.

Love always hopes. Things will get better tomorrow. We will         work towards constant improvement.

Love perseveres. We will never quit. We are in this for the long haul.

        2. Butterfly Language for Caterpillars – Soulmate Seeking with Alysse Aallyn

          Night = BALANCE “Resurrectionist”

“Going to sleep in one world we awaken in another”

Night offers a frightening universe of the invisible and the unfamiliar. How many of us have lain in our comfortable bedrooms and imagined tossed clothes as threatening monsters and scratchy tree-branches as iniquitous invaders?

Night is the domain of nocturnal creatures we imagine are up to no good; otherwise, why seek darkness? Night is the land of dreams when all worries and anxieties bubble up from the deepest depths of our own brains and terrify us with startling and vivid visions. Childhood is largely spent trying to get used to this strange rhythm of sleep and wake, of brooding and action, of quiet and frenzy and attempting to master the suspicions and fears it rouses.

Isn’t sleep like death and isn’t night like Hell? Where is the sun? What has happened to our loved and loving world? It helps to fall in love with Night and uncover its beauties as well as its secrets.

Waking in the middle of the night for some exciting enterprise like Christmas, meeting a beloved, for some family ritual or religious vigil, can be a time of awe-inspiring discovery. In the Planetarium they deliberately create a mockery of Night to show us the majesty of stars and planets.

Lovers wait for night like thieves. This is when most children are conceived, most children are born and the most powerful dreams – the ones that reveal the future – are dreamed.

The night is a mysterious, unsettling boundary. Sages say we go to sleep in one world and wake in another. I say we go to sleep as one person and wake up as someone else. Both are true. But, quite possibly, we don’t like it. We fear the meanings, the realities, the potential behind all of this.

Desires come to us unbidden. Do dreams separate or unite? Sleep is the land of the subconscious, the unconscious, the preconscious and the collective conscious. These are worlds we need to integrate into our Being. “Balance” is a skill that allows us to make the best of all these worlds.

The Subconscious is just beneath the surface. We glimpse it frequently during the day through our reactions to art, music, jokes, accidents and friendly interactions. ‘Freudian slips” are meaning to say one thing and “accidentally” stating the opposite. Our Subconscious is our Mastermind. It can be relied on to recognize the Beloved.

The Unconscious is deeper. We cannot access it except through dreams. Hypnosis will not take you deep enough. The Unconscious is a huge repository of fear and dread. It manifests in our daytime self as anxiety, panic attacks and psychosomatic illness. “Dream therapy” teaches lucid dreaming, when we begin to recall, learn from, even manage our dreams.

The Preconscious is our Unborn Self. These are our Multiverse selves who chose another path, past incarnations and possible selves. It manifests itself in our daily life through mysterious attractions to styles of art, episodes of history or pattern re-enactments. Our Preconscious might recognize the Beloved because you were together in another life/world. Sometimes forging of this bond will be the most advanced stage of your souls’ journey. In both cases, recognizing and blending with the Other is a vital step in your Becoming.

The Preconscious and the Collective Unconscious alike are activated through study, research and learning to accept and enjoy art and history. The Collective Unconscious is our group dream on this planet. It is positively expressed through Art, Shamanism and acting. It is negatively expressed by addictions, circumstances when you know you are acting outside your own control (and against the best interests of your life, health and safety) or when you are “channeling” the soul of another – acting like someone you aren’t but you can’t seem to stop.

These patterns are broken by Rehabilitation Therapy that seeks to connect you to your True Soul, which is always waiting for you to claim it.

Sometimes in our quest for the other we are assaulted by demonic forces masquerading as love. This is easily recognized by the question: does your Beloved improve or worsen your psychic health? If Your spiritual integrity is under threat, you will need help escaping this demon. Don’t hesitate to ask for it.

          Unearth me, lover
          I’m a jewel now

        3. the Language of Butterflies – walking the path of attachment with Alysse Aallyn

          Dreams = IMAGINATION “Freud’s Wolfman”

          “Spiritual Connectivity”

Your Soulmate is reaching out to you in dreams. In dreams we discover not just the Other but ourselves. Dreams give the lie to the idea that we are simple biological creatures tethered to rituals of attachment, food foraging, illness and death. In dreams we see visions, and we spend we rest of our lives puzzling out their meaning.

There has not yet been a human culture unaware of the numinous nature of existence. Given the choice between symbol-saturated subjects and simple objects, we go for the symbol every time. We live entirely within our own heads, playing out a story line known to us alone.

Dreams awaken us to different reveries. It is quite possible, as the philosophers suggest, that we are truly asleep in our everyday interactions and only fully conscious in our Dreams.
Dreams consolidate the day’s learning with the night’s yearning, forging connections with our deepest selves and with others’ deepest selves, alive and dead. Dreams are the story our primitive self tells our grown-up, social selves.

Dreams don’t necessarily even belong to us but can be “transferred” from those around us, including the dead, and even celebrities (such as literary figures and fictional characters) with whom we have forged an emotional bond. Therefore, the content of the dream, while important, is not as important as the soul from which it originates.

Today we will work on “self-hypnosis;” a process of “asking a question”, relaxing into a “waking trance” and thinking about what bubbles up. Remember not all questions have answers, and few have immediate answers; but it is important to put the question “out there”.

If fear is our primary reaction when we want to study our deepest links with others, that has to be dealt with so that we can move forward in our Soulmate Quest. What do we fear, exactly? We are not at the “mercy” of the universe, we are its “co-creators” and we must bravely claim our birthright.

Dreams are to be welcomed; they are not simply warnings and stories but also teases, in a language we need to learn. Dreams celebrate our spiritual connectivity not just with all the creatures who have ever shared the gift of life but with ideas, group powers and abilities.

They say when we go to sleep in one world, we awake in another. Perhaps it is our Soulmate’s world. Dreams show us our possibilities as well as our fears. I once had a dream in which I looked at myself in my coffin, but it was a powerful “my soul jumps!” experience and not a fearful one. When my son was a tiny boy he described dreamed of driving a truck “and my feet reached the pedals!”

Sometimes we are such beginners we don’t even know what to dream about. Dreams have long been recognized as warnings. Our unconscious sees dangers our conscious self refuses to recognize. So it creates a worthwhile map – not to the way forward, but a method of understanding where you have been. If you are having nightmares about a love choice, this is something to pay attention to. Gavin de Becker tells us (Gift of Fear) to honor our fear, but not to be controlled by it. Move forward with caution.

          DREAM OF FREUD’S WOLFMAN

The window opens of its own accord.
          He’s catapulted forward; waked.
Outside, the walnut tree is hung with wolves
Each to its branch; they watch him

          Blankly. Stillness has its
          Consequence. They are fat
As lambs ready for castration; round
As dogs; white as mother’s underdrawers.

          Such tails! Thick tails
          Perked and listening!
Blue snow rumples up the bedclothes; stiffens
Into plaster. This sky leads nowhere.

The child’s eyes are frozen like the window
They do not close; this tree
Is butchered at the crown; it will
          Not grow.

The wind that frosts the room is welcome
Stirring like a scream and like a scream
          It alters what it sees.
          The wolves levitate.

          What they know the child
          Must discover.

        4. The Language of Butterflies- walking the Path of Attachment with Alysse Aallyn

          Sex = SOULMATES – ‘”Nocturne”

          “are Soulmates born or made?”

In the Tantric Garden, Sex is sacred. In blindness we reach out to touch, to connect. This garden of existence demands that we inhale life through our every pore, and the central need of life is that we must share the flame that warms us or risk its ultimate extinction. There could be no garden without the mystery and joy of pollination and propagation; doubling and tripling not just our chances of survival but intensifying our savor and our senses.

The garden becomes a hugely hungry mouth, a pulsating groin, and we moan with it. The shock of the sublime. To live the dream is to become the dream. We are constituted for pleasure; igniting and increasing pleasure in a firework display that mimic the creation of the universe itself. Relationships solidify; two strengthen into one; frail flesh solidifies and love itself becomes unbreakable.

Spring is mating. We are searching for our lost half, our better AND our worse self. As we transform from a helpless to an intentional person, we seek the self we have been all along, as they seek themselves in us.

          NOCTURNE

          You reveal

          Yourself to me

          To my inner palate

          Fluttering

Out the phases of your moon-flat belly your

          Crescent thighs surging

          Urging

          Union undivided

          Your fleshy mandibles

          For a toothless suck

          Grouting for your smoky-salted dinner

          Double-snouted cock stiffens in

          My mango halves

O I will baste you when its time

          With angel-spit, with love-spawn

Dip you in my styx of roe

          Musky caviar

          You sensate wanderer you

          Suck

          Ubus

          I know you
          Open me.
